Missions of Love

A Haiti Christian Mission

Update from Barbie & Ralph Porter – Oct. 2009

Greetings from Jolivert! We are having a wonderful time at Jolivert. The weather has been hot and muggy with rain every day so far, probably the cause of the mosquitoes and flies being really bad. However, the people of Jolivert are still singing and smiling as they go about their daily chores.

Ralph and Haitains, Jimson and France, have almost completed the pharmacy. Hopefully, it will be painted on Monday. With the left over lumber, Ralph will start a new project on the missions house — a divider wall for the big sleeping area — to allow for a little more privacy visiting missionaries. And, of course he will be doing many handyman project around the compound, fixing plumbing, electrical and other problems. The “To Do” list is endless.

Nancy has been in Jolivert since Sept. 8. She has been busying herself with helping in the clinic and all around the compound. It is evident the Haitian people love her and she loves them back. Even though the language barrier proves challenging, she is proof positive that Love speaks all languages.

With this being my second trip to Jolivert, I’m a little more relaxed and it has helped me to understand things a little more clearly. Although the needs here are so great and sometimes overwhelmingI believe the Lord is pointing me to help teach the people of Jolivert. Since my first visit to the Missions of Love compound and meeting the children, it has been on my heart to present a program to teach the teens and yound adults of Jolivert how to speak English. Therefore, I am praying the Lord would help me to find the materials (curriculmn), Haitian teachers and funding to start such a program at Missions of Love. It would help the people so much and they are so eager to learn English. (Just as I am to learn Creole.) So, I covet your prayers for such a program.

We are looking forward to Betty’s arrival on Monday, as are the Haitians. I think she and doc have M.O.L. groupies here! They all just love Doc and Betty so much. What a blessings they have been to this area of Haiti.
