Asa and Jean’s Update For 2010
“Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope for His loving kindness, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield, for our heart rejoices in Him, because we trust in His holy name. Let Thy loving kindness, O Lord, be upon us, according as we have hoped in Thee.” Psalm 33:18 – 22
This is our prayer for all the people of Haiti and for those who are involved in aid and rescue efforts.
Though we weren’t able to go to Haiti in the Fall, due mostly to family obligations and the need to make a trip to the dock in Miami with supplies for Haiti, our minds and hearts are never far from the Haitian people. During that time, we presented the mission to at least five different groups, not counting our own church family. We were also able to accumulate funds to complete the installation of solar power on our mission compound.
One of the most fun presentatio
ns we made was to a Christian school in New Jersey where a friend of ours teaches. There were about fifty children in grades 1 – 8. They were so interested and so well behaved, we spent most of the day with them. They gave us their assembly time to speak about the mission, and they gave us toys and donations for the people there.
We also spent time acquiring Bibles, Christian literature, and evangelistic DVDs to be used in Haiti, and recruiting others to go with us to work. We were introduced to a young Haitian man who is attending a local university, and he is kindly assisting us in improving our knowledge of Kreyol and also Haitian culture. He is very patient and helpful, and we are grateful to him for giving us of his time. We were happy to hear that his mother, brother and sister were safe during the earthquake, though their home was severely damaged.
No doubt everyone reading this has watched with horror and heartbreak following the news of the devastating earth-quake. We are thankful that the northern sector of the country was unaffected except for severe shaking that frightened everyone. Now we are getting reports of a great influx of refugees that need almost everything, so there will be increased nee
ds for ministry there for a long time to come.
We are hoping to go to Jolivert on February 26, providing the airlines will be operational. They sold us tickets, but that’s no guarantee. There are seven others planning to go with us. We ask that you will be in prayer for all of us as we embark on this trip, for there are many uncertainties involved. We are trusting that God will direct and provide as He always does.
